On the lake

"Boating accidents - some funny, some tragic" - Alan Partridge

Just spent a lovely week at a ridiculously massive lakehouse in the picturesque Rideau Lakes area of Ontario. Entering the house was, bizarrely, like stepping into an episode of Cribs, with an giant open plan living area stuffed with plush sofas and room to sleep about twenty people, masses of decking and an outdoor fire pit, as well as table tennis, air hockey and three boats to play on the lake with. Aparrantly it goes for some shockingly high rent in the peak season but because we came at a slightly odd time we got it for next to nothing!

Activities this week have included:

  • Revelling in the beautiful suroundings and soaking up some serious peace and quiet, with nothing but the gentle lapping of the water to be heard, mmmmmmm.

  • Experiencing a week of weather covering the whole spectrum from snowy blizzards where the perfect flakes collect on your eyebrows to warming spring sunshine where I even managed to burn my face.

  • Rowing and pedalo-ing around the deserted lake, nosing at the houses dotted amongst the trees and daydreaming about having a lakehouse some day. After all, "life is but a dream"

  • Visiting Montreal. Upside: great views over the city from the 'Mont Royal' it is named after. Downside: Absolutely gigantic metroplis, not quite as cool and quirky as I expected.

  • Finding myself back in Brighton already ("Where the past greets the future" Haha!) and sampling some quality Earl Grey at a really cute little tearoom.

I'll try and put my recent photos up on Flickr as soon as I can.
