Fever Ray

You may know Karin Dreijer Andersson as one half of Swedish electro-pop eccentrics The Knife. The debut release from her solo project as Fever Ray is a rather more intimate, edgy affair.

Coming across as some sort of electro Cocteau Twins, her self-titled album fizzes with stark, intelligent composition with that oh-so-distinctive voice weaving in and out of the chiming synths. It also reminds me of (long-lost electronic band) Appliance in its gently unfolding hypnotica, whose Imperial Metric album was another unfortunate mid-90's, 'sank-without-a-trace' affair.

It's strangely gorgeous stuff and if you are in any way a fan of The Knife this is well worth checking out. It's out now on Rabid/Cooperative Music. Get it here
